An itinerary engine now implemented in our smart maps.
We wanted to give to our users the possibilty to use itineraries, for their content. These itineraries can be added to their maps.
To meet this need, we chose to use OSRM engine, based on OpenStreetMap data.
OSRM uses a calculation model which allows to obtain the shortest route between several points.
This model is based on a contracted graph of the road network, which subsequently accelerates all the calculations.
To use an itinerary calculation in your maps, you just have to select "itinerary" setting in your points' list properties. The itinerary will have the first list's point as origin and destination by default. It will trace a loop which will visit all the other points of the list.
Our graph being oriented, the calculated itinerary will be optimised for a car ride and will take careful consideration of the direction of circulation, one-way roads, or roundabouts.
We obviously did not forget bikers and pedestrians, for which we added adequate graphs. You just have to choose the mode of travel in list's settings, and the itinerary will take into account specificities and new possibilities accross the network.
And you can add as much itineraries lists as you want to your map!
